2 Bookmarks, machine embroidery on both.
[.a] Embroidery on purple piece of silk which is sewn onto a maroon silk ribbon. 'MAY/ BLESSNIGS/ ATTEND/ THEE/ your life for/ many years to come/ may God/ in mercy bless,/ and when he calls you to/ his throne,/ crown you/ with happiness' Below this are embroidered flowers and leaves. The maroon ribbon is folded and sewn down. Under one fold is written by hand in pen 'A PRESENT/ TO/ HETTY/ FROM/ ANN/ 1885.
[.b] Black silk ribbon with a verse and flowery-leafy pattern embroidered in red, green, purple and yellow. 'HAPPY MAY/ THY/ BIRTHDAY/ BE/my heart breathes/ a prayer/ to our Father above/ that he ever may guide you/ in mercy and love./ Through the year/ that's before you/ just entered today./ For birthdays are milestones that mark/ our lifeway.
