Eva (unknown)

Jetty at Point Direction, North Fremantle

Eva was an unpowered wooden barge and lighter built by W. & S. Lawrence in 1897 used to convey cargoes between ship and shore in Fremantle, and between Fremantle and Perth. Initially registered at Fremantle in 1907 to Melbourne company McIllwraith and McEacharn Co. Ltd., it’s registration closed in 1944 when the new owner Mr A. E. Manolois bought the barge to be scuttled and used as a cheap slipway where it now lies. Approximately 20m x 5m in area, the shipwreck of the Eva is now located in a marina under a jetty at Point Direction in North Fremantle area, after failed attempts to remove it (Scrimshaw 1981:4).
