PINAFORE, 1860s

Pinafore of white diaper weave linen; very plain shape with insertions of whitework at shoulders to give some roundness, and small band of same applied to middle front gathers which give fullness; necka nd armholes trimmed with whiteworked tape; neck gathers with tape; 2 small tape ties at back. Size would fit a child 3-6 years. Hand-sewn throughout. Ref. Cunnington & buck 'Children's Costume in England', p. 167.
