The Sukesada school of swordsmiths, of Bizen Province, worked in the village of Osafune between 1350 and 1850. Due to the similarity of both their workmanship and their signatures, it is difficult to distinguish between the various members of the school. However, this wakizashi blade appears to have been made by the 5th generation Sukesada, who died in 1674 at the age of 98.
