This World War II blade was made by a highly respected swordsmith named Miyaguchi (1896-1955), who, in 1933, was appointed as a resident swordsmith to the Tasukuni Military Shrine. He used the names Yasuhiro, Toshihiro and Kunimori. Kunimori, which appears on this tachi blade, was used only for second-grade blades of Western steel, which were made for issue to officers in the Japanese army. The signature reads: ‘Ikkansai Kunimori, a resident of Toto (i.e. Tokyo), made with great sincerity and effort’.
