Uniform of Colonel Ronald Ireland, 8th Army.
[.a] Jacket, khaki. Two badges on epaulettes: crown on red felt and cream and brown pip on red felt, rank Lieutenant Colonel. Short jacket with waist band. Sleeves gathered into cuffs. On shoulder flash: 'ROYAL AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY'. White embroidered on red felt. Red cord knotted over right shoulder and attached to right-hand pocket. Two bars of colours above left hand breast pocket. First row, from left to right: 1939 to 1945 Star; Africa Star with silver Arabic '8' indicating service with the 8th Army between 23 October 1942 and 12 May 1943; Pacific Star. Second row left to right: Defence Medal; War Medal 1939 - 1945 with a bronze oak leaf attached signifying a Mention in Despatches; 1939 to 1945 Australian Service Medal; Territorial Decoration (for 'efficient and capable officers of 20 years or more service). Label on inside right-hand breast pocket 'R.J. HATCH & CO./ 1952 / Size 5 / MADE IN AUSTRALIA / REGIMENTAL No.
