COURT DRESS, Alexander Forrest

5 pieces of official Court dress of the type worn for Vice-Regal occasions, eg Govt House functions etc. Alex. Forrest was a member of one of WAs most prominent colonial families. The costume consists of a black velvet? cocked hat with black watered silk ribbon and silvered metal chain links decorating the left side. The inside is lined with white silk, has a leather hat band, and is marked in the crown "(Royal coat of arms) E.T.Manning & CO / Court & Diplomatic Tailors / 124 New Bond St". The coat is black velvet and comes to the waist at the front with long square ended tails at the rear. The sleeves have turned up cuffs and the coat is fastened by six silvered "jewelled" buttons which are "en suite" with the hat decoration. The coat is lined with black silk which is partly quilted. There is no makers label or pockets. The waistcoat is of white silk, has two pockets, is fastened by five fabric covered buttons and is lined in white silk. The knee breeches are of black velvet which matches the coat. The knee fastenings consist of three silvered buttons and a silvered buckle on each knee, again matching the coat and hat. The fly and braces buttons are "japanned" brass, marked "E.T.Manning & Co / London". The stockings are of black silk?. For the costume case belonging to these items see H88 / 0615.
