WOODEN CRATE, Figs

Oblong wooden crate, shallow, without lid. Crudely constructed from rough-sawn slats of wood, nailed together. Each end has an embossed inscription. One end reads 'A.L.F/ PRODUCE OF TURKEY'; the other reads 'ARTHUR LAFONT & FILLS LTD./ 5 [surmounted by crown] 4...?...PACKAGES/...?..../12 MIR LAYER FIGS/ PRODUCE OF TURKEY'. Printed in dark ink on one side: 'HC/ FREMANTLE'. Faint, illegible numbers written in red crayon on one end.
