All items in thios collection were identified by Professor Malcolm Nairn, Veterinary Science School Murdoch University. This set of instruments belonged to Col. Ernest LeSouef, Director of Perth Zoological Gardens (1897-1932). He was one of three founding veterinarians who formed the Western Australian Branch of the Australian Veterinary Association in 1924. it is believed that he used these instruments in Margaret River during the 1930s at group settlement. LeSouef lectured at The University of Western Australia, Institute of Agriculture in "Veterinary Hygiene and Dietetics" & "Veterinary Anatomy". He gave the instruments to one of his outstanding students, Eric Underwood, later Professor Eric Underwood an outstanding agricultural scientist. Emeritus Professor Underwood, AO, CBE, (died in August 1980) was Hackett Professor of Agriculture, Director of the Institute of Agriculture and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at UWA for 25 Years. He retired in 1970. (See file 178/73 - 22 Dec 80) and became an Honorary Research Fellow in Animal Science and Production 1 Nov 1975.
