BOX, pine, rectangular, metal plaque

Small, rectangular, light coloured pine, with metal plaque and lock, box. Thick, varnished, pine lid with small, central, decorative metal plaque. Plaque had central, plain, oval-shape, surrounded by intricate scroll and leaf design. Grain of wood clear through varnish, some pencils marks across top of lid, on hinge side. Small hole punched? Worn? At bottom of lid, near opening side. Slightly rounded corners. Sides plain, construction evident. Front side has small, lock mechanism in centre, with rough edges around outside – evidence of similar metal plaque to top, since removed. Reverse side has two small rectangular hinges on each side of reverse. Small crack/chip to proper left, and small, flat head mail in centre of proper right edge. Base not original, repaired at later time, made of softer, cream coloured, wood/plywood, with 11 thick head nails around edges, unevenly spaced. Inside; lid and base lined with grey fabric, not original, held in place with five thumbtacks on lid, eight on base. Naïve pencil cartoon drawing under fabric lining on inside of lid. Top front edge of lid and base has metal lock mechanism, inside edge hinges visible. Exterior has indentations and some small chips to wood, some scratches and marks to varnish, metal parts tarnished. Base rust stained with small spots, and darker dirty patches along side edges. Fabric creased, base has waxy/dirty marks to outside edge.
