SHOES, Female Satin Buckle

H1994.241.a-b

Pair of cream and green satin female shoes with thin 2 1/4 inch Louis heels and narrow round toes. Small sections of coloured floral embroidery decorate the toes, sides and heels. The shoes feature buckles consisting of a pair crossed flaps extending from the cuff onto the ramp, probably once secured with a concealed hook or button. The soles and inner sole are of leather, the latter punctured by several holes. The underside of each shoe has an 'O' stamped three times along its length. Inscribed on the underside of one shoe in hand-written ink are the words 'slipper of Anne Lyttleton/ of Trewin Cty Cornwall/ the great great Grandmother/ of my children. HML/ 1/8/72'.
