Woollen neck tie with even-sized diagonal stripes in three shades of blue woven with black. Mauve satin lining. Label reads 'EXCLUSIVE TO / DARTINGTON / HALL / TOTNES . DEVON . ENGLAND' Label bears device of a tudor rose outlined in red with a white stag central to design. E. Woollen neck tie with narrow diagonal stripes forming colour bands of blue and green with brown and beige interwoven with black. White satin lining. Label reads 'EXCLUSIVE TO / DARTINGTON / HALL / TOTNES . DEVON . ENGLAND'. Label carries device of a tudor rose out- lined in red with a white stag central to design. I. Woollen neck tie of even sized diagonal stripes in black, white and grey woven with black. White satin lining. Label reads 'WOVEN AT / DARTINGTON HALL / DEVON / ENGLAND'. J. Woollen neck tie with varying sized diagonal stripes dark blue, light blue, green and beige all woven with beige. White satin lining. Label reads 'WOVEN AT / DARTINGTON HALL / DEVON / ENGLAND'. K. Woollen neck tie beige background with blocks of three stripes in red, cream and black. Orange satin lining. Label reads 'MADE IN (Scottish lion) SCOTLAND / CRAIGMILL / SHETLAND / 100% PURE VIRGIN WOOL'. All these ties were worn by John Bannister during his tenure of office as Director of the W.A. Museum. Mr. Bannister wore a different tie each day and his collection was a source of comment at the Museum. Most of the ties were purchased overseas during holidays and travels connected with his work. John Leonard Bannister, born April 20th 1937, started work at the W.A. Museum in 1967 as Curator of Mammals after spending three years with the C.S.I.R.O. Department of Fisheries and Oceanography. He was Deputy Director of the Museum from 1971 to 1975 and Director from 1975 to 1991 when he retired. Full details of career can be seen in Who's Who in Australia, 1988, page 92.
