Blue and white plush toy, girl Smurf, (Smurfette) with yellow hair and a short white skirt. One of three Smurf toys given to Helen's children by her aunt, Fran Doust. This was Meredith's Smurf. The smurfs were kept on the children's beds. Smurfs were a very successful promotional souvenir of BP in Australia for four or five years from 1 September 1979. (Info from Ian Unmach, BP in Melb tel 03 268 4554). The most popular smurfs were the approx. 5cm plastic smurf toys sold at BP service stations. There was also a USA made cartoon series about the Smurfs. Label reads "Contents / all new material / acrylic fibre plush / all synthetic clippings and cotton / this item meets or exceeds / made in Australian safety regulations / including flammability act / Korea", and on reverse, "Smurf(e) peyo / Sepp BP Australia" From a collection of toys used by Helen's children who were all born at Woodside Hospital in Dalgety St, East Fremantle.
