White plate, moulded scrolls on rim, gilt, crown in centre gold, red and green. Purple printed mark: "(crown) / MORTLOCK . 18 . REGENT St." in belt around "BUCKINGHAM / PALACE". J. Mortlock or Mortlocks Ltd., Oxford Street and other addresses, London. Established 1746, ceased c. 1930. Retailer. John Mortlock was one of the leading C19th retailers and was associated with several factories in the 1810 to 1830 period. Christie's Catalogue CEU 1608 No. 136: "an English porcelain plate painted and gilt with a crown within a foliate scrolled border, from a Buckingham Palace Service - 10 in. diam."
