EMBROIDERED PANEL

H1988.61

Embroidered panel, black silk backing with in the centre a picture frame glued to backing, flanked by four embroidered flags with a crown at the top and leaves at the bottom. Picture frame is covered in light green silk, and decorated with hand-painted flowers. It is open at the top for a picture to be inserted. "ADVANCE AUSTRALIA" at the top in yellow thread. On the left is the Australian flag an a flag used from January 1, 1901 for nine months. It is a combination of the British Union Jack and the Eureka Stockade flag. A national flag combination resulted in our current flag. On the right is the Union Jack and the Australian Merchant Navy flag.
