DISH
CH1982.337
Shell shaped dish with deep scalloped edge. Painted with single flowers on edge within moulded scrolled and acanthus cartouches. Edge and some moulding heightened in gilt. Central group of flowers. Painting of good quality. Clear bluish glaze showing some speckles in firing. No marks but small (ca 4 mm.) neat pattern number '397' painted in gold. Shape suggests may be Ridgway. Pattern number not inconsistent with this. Other factories producing similar style of painting do not seem to have made this shape & pattern numbers inconsistent. Ref. Godden, Illustrated Guide to Ridgway Porcelain, plate IV. Date suggested by early pattern number (from first series) and soft paste, before introduction of bone china.
