CHEMISE

White neckline and shoulder pieces composed of cotton, with handworked broderie anglaise around neck, 'sleeves' and down front opening. Fastens with single, cloth-covered elongated button. Sleeveless. Rest of chemise is linen. Set on to cotton yoke with flat seams. Slight gathered section centre back. Falls below knee length with gusset each side of side seams. Joined by oversewing the selvages. All hand-sewn with tiny stitches and all seams are flat. Date indicated by absence of sleeves and front flap, coupled with hand stitching.
