Cream glazed earthenware ewer, footed with no lip, with handle. Decorated with gold bands on top edge, base of neck, 2 bands on handle, and 3 bands on foot. Made in two-piece mould with moulded pattern of fighting snakes and stylized flowers. Marks on base in underglaze black: '(ORIENTAL/IVORY/(held by Chinese man)'. Moulded registration lozenge for 9 March 1878. Mark of Powell, Bishop & Stonier, Hanley. China and Earthenwares 1878091.
