BRACES & CRAVAT

CH1975.499.a-b

(a) Pair of embroidered canvas and leather braces.
Addition 12.6.1990: The braces appear to have been professionally made. They are "Sunday Best" braces. They have kid straps which indicates they are very good quality. The wool used in the embroidery is thick, and the colors are fairly violent. Both of these features indicate that the braces were made late in the period of popularity for Berlin woolwork, probably the 1860's or 1870's. Information from Thyra Robertson and Judith Penell of the Embroiders' Guild.
(b) Magenta cravat with self pattern.
