GT1386P - Ship's timber

Fragment of frame; futtock or floor end. Very worn, worm eaten, hardly any original surface preserved. Treenails used to attach frame to hull planking, rounded in section. Two treenails seated very close to one another; one of which is blind treenail, which suggests the ceiling planking was treenailed onto frames.

Fragment of hull planking with two treenails. Exterior surface: Sacrificial planking nail holes preserved, square in section, closely spaced in diagonal or alternating pattern. Two treenails are seated next to one another; one is blind treenail that comes from interior surface and does not protrude through planking's thickness (may indicate that the ceiling planking was treenailed onto frames); second treenail was used to fasten frames to the planking.
