Rolled gold pince-nez in sterling silver case. The two nose pieces padded with a soft rubber? Small ring on right hand lense for attaching cord or chain. The across the the top of the glasses joining the two lenses is adjustable. With the use of a spring on this bar the glasses are able to pinch securely onto the wearer's nose.
The sterling silver case is hinged at the back. It is rounded at both ends. Inside it is lined with velvet. The base of the case has a lip at the front which the rims of the glasses can slip under. The silver mark is on this rim. It consists of the maker's initial, anchor, lion passant and the ltter 'u'. Part of the maker's inital is worn away but the remainder indicates a date of 1919-20. these pince-nez are identical to set in '1935-6 Army and Navy Store Catalogue' p. 996.
