HORSESHOE, Plough or Draft
T1980.51
(After discussion with T. Doyle). Plough or draft horseshoe, hind hoof (takes more pointed shoe than fore which is usually rounder). Extra metal welded to base of shoe under front clip to give longer wear. Mr Doyle believes (without tests) that shoe is made of mild steel and is therefore post c. 1910, and probably c. 1920s. (Shoes wee generally made of cast iron before about 1910. A shoe with as little wear as this is known as a "slipper" and could have been re-used.
