SOVEREIGN CASE, Gold, 'EWM'

H2002.93

Round 9 carat gold sovereign case with flattened sides and single hinged bottom. Has a solid round knob with a ring looped through it attached to the top, with a small button that opens the case lid. Lid opens to 90 degrees. The outside surface of the case is decoratively engraved with a scroll pattern. One one side the initials ‘EWM’ are engraved within a circle with a decorative border. Inside contains a small flat horse shoe attached to the case at the sides. Coins can be inserted behind the horseshoe, which holds them in place. A silver coloured metal disk has been inserted in the coin slot, and is possibly removable. Engraved around the top edge of the inner casing is ‘GOLD-FILLED. 9 CARAT TO WEAR 20 YEARS’. Marked on the inside of the lid: ‘TRADE/(sun)(moon)(star)/MARK/A.L.D/9CT FILLED 182’.
