-2- HARPOONS, Killing, wooden

T1979.48.a-b

Wooden killing harpoons do not have flukes, only a square head onto which are screwed the time delay grenades. These harpoons are designed to penetrate deep into the whale to allow the grenades to detonate and kill the whale as quickly as possible. The wooden harpoons are generally considered inferior to the steel ones because of their lightness and lack of stability.
