DENTIST CHAIR

H1988.282

Underneath chair is inscribed "MANUFACTURED BY / The Ritter Dental Mfg. Company, / ROCHESTER, N.Y. / USA / NO 2 FAVORITE COLUMBIA CHAIR No 11707F / See directions on upholstered seat". As the seat has been re-upholstered, these directions have been lost. This chair was originally the used by Ken Rout, Kalgoorlie dentist. The chair was given by Rout to Mattingley, whose father was a dentist both in Kalgoorlie and in Ravensthorpe. Mattingley was to donate the chair to the Ravensthorpe Museum, but as they were unable to utilise the chair, it was returned to Kalgoorlie and remained in the office of the Kalgoorlie Miner, where Keith Mattingley was at the time the manager. The chair was passed to the Museum of the Goldfields by Mattingley.
