CEMENT BARREL
H1993.203
All cement before 1921 was imported in barrels (casks) made of wood. Cement manufacture began in 1920-21 with the formation of Western Australian Cement Co, which was taken over by Swan Portland Cement Ltd in 1927. This barrel was made by coopers working for Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers in England, who made "Blue Circle" cement. Barrel marked in black ink "A P C M / A / PORTLAND CEMENT"> Marked on top "C WF? No / FREMANTLE".
