TYPEWRITER Imperial portable

Acquired secondhand in India in 1941 by Trish Crawford's mother, Mrs Enid Clarke (who is 78 years old) and brought to Australia in that year. Given to Trish in the early 1960s. Used to draft several theses, including Trish and Ian's MAs. Dr Patricia Crawford is Associate Professor, History Department, UWA Dr Ian Crawford retired as Head, Division of Human Studies, WA Museum 27 December 1991. Imperial brand portable typewriter mounted on base which forms part of the case. "Imperial / The Good Companion / Made in Leicester, England. / MANUFACTURED BY THE IMPERIAL TYPEWRITER CO. LTD. LEICESTER ENGLAND". Serial No. "AW 257". Crest and "BY APPOINTMENT". The Imperial portable typewriter, known as the "Good Companion" was first introduced in 1932. Appears to be the same as model illustrated in Beeching.
