a. Rectangular wooden box containing small hand scales and five weights - two rectangular half scruples, one round half scruple, a round scruple, and a round drachm weight. The box is lined with red velvet and a small area has been squared off to contain the weights. On the base is some indecipherable lettering and "1 5/6". The catch is a hook type, attached to the side. b. Hand-held scales with a moveable balance bar, to each end of which is attached a glass weighing pan supported by three lengths of string. There is a tassel by which to hold the scales and directly beneath this, the balance needle. Scales were used by Otto Lipfert, the first taxidermist of the Western Australian Museum. Similar type found in Sears, Roebuck & Co Catalogue 1897 but this type of scale continued to be used for some decades.
