COIN, threepence, UK, 1887-1893
H1997.141
This silver threepence coin has been smoothed on the reverse so that no pattern remains visible. The obverse and size identify it as a threepence coin, it might be Maundy money. The obverse features a Crowned and Veiled bust of Queen Victoria facing left, and the lettering 'VICTORIA DEI GRATIA BRITT:REGINA F:D:'. This portrait of Queen Victoria also identifies a date range for coin production. The initials/name 'ALF' has been engraved in script onto the reverse of the coin and it has been holed at the top, suggesting it was used as some form of jewellery.
