VACUUM CLEANER

H1990.374

Vacuum cleaner with a handle shaped like a 'T' at the top, a long shaft with hooks 45cm apart on which to wind the electric cord at the centre, and a motor and cleaning head at the bottom. This is attached on a hinge so that the handle can lie perpendicular to the floor allowing cleaning under low furniture. The head moves on 3 wheels (the rear, a swivel) and contains a rotating brush within the suction vent. Plate attached to head reads: 'EDISWAN/ DE LUXE' and on a smaller circular plate above it: 'BRITISH REGD. TRADEMARKS/ EDISWAN/ DE LUXE/ MADE IN ENGLAND'. A number is impressed into the metal attaching the head and motor '2219' and on a plate at the back of the motor 'B/ T-H'. The cleaning head can be adjusted by a screw at the side to one of 4 levels marked on a plate: 'BARE FLOOR/ SHORT NAP/ MEDIUM NAP/ LONG NAP'. The narrow, lower end of the dustbag attaches to the unit with a twist lock and is clamped closed at its wide upper end by what appears to be a large paper holder looped onto a hook on the handle. Through 2 large oval windows in the bag, dust levels can be checked. Printed on front of the bag: 'GENERAL ELECTRIC' and on the rear: 'PATNTED/ 1,209,718/ AND UNDER ON OR MORE OF/ THE FOLLOWING PATENTS', whereupon 20 other patents are listed, then 'LICENSED UNDER/ 1,517,811/ RE 15,627/ 1,293,250'.
