Plywood case covered in crocodile patterned cloth based material. Case is suitcase style with a detachable lid, metal studs on base, a wire mesh insert in base to allow cooling and two inlet plugs. Manufacturers plate attached to base reads: 'TYPE TR MOD ST1 / FREQ 50 VOLTS 100/240 / SERIAL NO. 13066 / MANUFACTURED WHOLLY IN AUSTRALIA BY / PYROX LTD. / UNDER LICENSE TO / ARMOUR RESEARCH FOUNDATION U.S. / PATENT NOS 121565, 121667, 121852, / 1?036 / 121661 121668, 126345, 131593 / AND OTHERS PENDING'. One side of case also has large mesh insert for cooling. Top of case has brown carry handle and an inlet (? microphone). Inside case top are two foam rubber pads to fit over tape spindles when case is closed, a triangular metal plate bearing a stylised design of a lighthouse with `PYROX' above it, and lettering between the foam pads which reads: 'WHEN BUYING ADDITIONAL / RECORDING TAPE INSIST ON / OFFICIAL Magictape / FOR BEST RESULTS'. Inside of case is divided into three sections, one large which houses the recorder and two smaller ones for accessories. The recorder has a light olive green paint enamel housing held with a large screw in each corner. Two tape spindles, reel to reel, a central control labelled 'FORWARD, STOP, REWIND', A 'MOTOR OFF' switch, a 'PHONES' inlet, a 'PICK UP' inlet, a volume control, a 'PICK UP MIXER' switch, a 'RECORD/PLAY' switch, a 'MIC' inlet, an unlabelled inlet with sellotape over it, and two lights, one labelled 'LEVEL' and one unlabelled. Top is marked: 'PYROX / Magictape'. Side compartments hold the electrical cord with plug, a dirty pipe cleaner, a black bakelite receiver marked: 'RECEIVER / R-14 / MADE BY / CONSOLIDATED / RADIO PROD. CO. / FOR / SIGNAL CORPS U.S. ARMY', an electric plug socket with a small length of flex attached, a badly foxed envelope marked '3BA / BALLARAT' containing two lengths of fine spring coil wire, three rubber washer type things probably to adjust the size of tape spindles to accomodate different size tapes, a Nyal Iodised Throat Tablet container with a small valve inside wrapped in fabric.
