KITCHEN TOWEL, linen, ‘A.F.’

Large, oblong, off-white (yellowed) with red trim, linen, hand-embroidered red ‘A.F.’ on top-centre of kitchen towel. Jacquard checkerboard pattern, bordered with wide, varied white linear border on all sides. Four lines of red thread run along either side of the length of the towel, incorporated into the jacquard weave. Hemmed top and bottom, uneven sides due to loom. Creases along four quarters of width and two lengthways creases. Worn thin/small holes throughout fabric, some darned/patched areas on right side. Some yellowing/staining, particularly through front centre. Small embroidered ‘ IX ‘,with under and overlining, in red, yellow and black thread (launderer’s mark?). Back: two small rust spots on lower right creases. Hanging tab sewn into top hem.
