TOWEL, Kitchen roll, ‘ROLLTUCH’, ‘L.B.’

Large, oblong, light brown/tan, jacquard damask, heavy linen, ‘ROLLTUCH’, red embroidered ‘L.B.’ initialled, kitchen roll towel. Vertically striped jacquard, with a geometric border on left and right sides, top and bottom border interspersed with ‘ROLLTUCH’ damask in centre. Lower third of towel has a design of two maid/servant girls wiping hands on a ‘rolltuch’, standing either side of unidentified domestic equipment with a central wheel, finished at the bottom with a decorative floral and scroll design. Hemmed top and bottom, sides uneven due to loom. Rust stains over floral design, left border (top of lower third), large spot below top ‘ROLLTUCH’ and in right of top ‘ROLLTUCH’. Some discolouration of fabric, particularly in the lighter thread of the weave. Reverse: small spots of tan/yellow paint (?) on right lower floral design, right of central border area and right of top ‘ROLLTUCH’. Fabric creased all over, with fold lines.
