DOOR SILENCER, In original box, with instructions, ‘LEGG’S SILENCER’

H2012.86.1-4

Door silencer with parts, box, and instructions.
[1] Door silencer, metal, in three parts. Part 1 is a long rectangular blackened metal spring arm with both ends folded back onto itself. The folded section at one end is 45mm long and rests on a rectangular red piece of rubber. A hole has been drilled through both the folded section of metal and the base piece, through which the plunger rod of part 2 is inserted. At the opposite end the folded section of metal is 20mm long, and is pressed into the base piece. A cylindrical metal rod with a metal spring around it entends downwards from this end, and is enclosed with a flattened C shaped metal bracket. The bracket has 2 holes in its back through which screws are inserted to secure it to the door. The metal is blackened throughout and rusted around the spring. Engraved on top: 'PAT.APPD.FOR/No.7702'. Part 2 is a cylindrical blackened metal arm, 23mm in diameter, with a round right angled piece of metal for controlling the door closing speed attached at one end. The other end contains an adjustable round metal plunger rod which is inserted into the cylinder body and extends upwards at 90 degrees at the end. This upwards section is attached through the holes at the end of part 1, spring arm. A cylindrical metal rod extends down underneath the cylinder and fits into part 3. Part 3 is a square C shaped blackened metal bracket with 2 aligned holes in the top and bottom which attach to part 2. There are 2 diagonal holes in the back for securing it to a door.
