BROOCH, Westralia
H1996.508
Gold mining brooch featuring tools - a shovel with a nugget of gold, pick and a two sided hammer, in a cross over design. A swan is featured at the centre of the tools. A small love heart hangs from the base of the swan (the heart may have replaced an original mining item, such as a bucket). On the top the words 'WESTRALIA' are arched from the spade to the pick. (Westralia may refer to the state of Western Australia or to the mine - Westralia Mount Morgan Gold Mining Company). The enclosure is formed by a pin and hook.
