Heavily decorated in vague oriental style. Edge alternates in blocks o gold-stemmed red thistles. On black and basket of fruit and flowers on white. Band inside 'bowl' alternating brown and tan with flowers in centre. All decoration over glaze. 2 marks on base impressed ASHWORTHS \ REAL \ IRONSTONE \ CHIN(A)" and printed in underglaze brown "(Crown) \ REAL A. BROS CHINA \ IRONSTONE". Nairn NO. 91 G.L. Ashworth & Bros., Hanley. C1862-90. Ref. Godden, Encyclopaedia 196 page 38 nos. 137 and 140-2.
