MEDALLION, HMAS Sydney II, oxidised silver. OBVERSE in raised relief lettering: 'PRESENTED BY/THE CITIZENS OF SYDNEY/TO CAPTAIN J.A. COLLINS C.B.,R.A.N./THE OFFICERS AND SHIP'S COMPANY/H.M.A.S. SYDNEY/IN COMMEMORATION OF THEIR GALLANT FIGHT,/AGAINST SUPERIOR SPEED AND WEIGHT OF/ARMAMENT, WHICH RESULTED IN THE SINKING/OF THE ITALIAN CRUISER/BARTOLOMEO COLLEONI/IN THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA/JULY NINETEEN/1940'. Centrally above citation in raised relief is City of Sydney crown, anchor and star logo flanked by laurel wreaths. Below citation is laurel wreath. Near rim on base is manufacturer's name: 'AMOR'. REVERSE features raised relief illustration in foreground of warship, HMAS Sydney II at full steam with burning Italian cruiser Bartolomeo Colleoni in background. Edge/rim engraved with words: 'THE CAPTAIN AND EACH MEMBER OF THE CREW RECEIVED THIS MEDAL, 11.2.1941'.
