Circular medallion with brass finish, medallion designed as silver plated, this example is unplated.
Obverse: Laurel wreath branches around outside edge, encircles second border with text 'THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA INC' and belt buckle motif at bottom centre. Square outline in centre of medal with swan on water motif and text 'FOUNDED 1913/ INCORPORATED 1937/ CYGNIS INSIGNIS'. Square surmounted by crown and flanked by wave line motifs.
Reverse: text '1998/ UNIVERSITY/ SCIENCE MEDAL/ JOHN BLINCO/ (MURDOCH)'. Swan on water motif in convex circle shape at centre bottom. Reeds of Kangaroo Paw curve around left and right edges of medal from centre circle.
