SHOES, Sandals, multi-coloured leather
H2015.150.1-2
Pair of metallic bronze, gold and silver-coloured strappy medium-heeled sandals.
On both left and right shoes:
Imprinted on underside of sole: ' MADE BY MAGNET CHOE CO. (AUST) PTY. LTD. LEATHER/ UPPER/ SYNTHETIC LINING/ RESIN/ SOLE/ B/ 7 1/2'
Embossed onto the sole: [Two 'f' shaped symbols lying horizontally above] '7 1/2 B/ MADE BY/ MAGNET SHOE CO. (AUST.) P/L/ LEATHER UPPER/ SYNTHETIC LINING/ RESIN SOLE' .
Text used to be in black ink but much of it is faded/missing now and wear has made the letters difficult to make out.
Each shoe has three straps, one gold, one bronze and one silver, running across the forefoot area and another set of three straps, same colours running from the outside edge of the shoe, just beneath where the little toe would sit, diagonally across to finish on the opposite edge near where the arch becomes the heel. There are two gold straps, one on each side of the arch which presumably would be wrapped and tied round the ankle. Both have gold lining with scalloped edges.
1] Left shoe shows more significant wear. Sections of the gold on the lining under the arch and more under the ball of the foot have been worn away or torn from the base. There is also significant scuffing of the heel and sole and wearing away of the gold colou uner the toe area. The leather straps are stiffened and becoming brittle. The ones wrapped about the ankle are showing small cracks in the colour and are quite twisted.
2] Right shoe has less damage. The gold lining is only missing in one small place under the big toe, and the colouring under the toes has faded. Similar amount of scuffing on the heel and the sole. The leather straps have stiffened and are becoming brittle. The ones wrapped about the ankle are showing small cracks in the colour and are quite twisted.
