Colour portrait miniature in a rectangular, wooden frame that is painted black and crazed. Portrait is framed in an oval glass window with a concave brass border. Rectangular acorn and leaf fitting with metal ring for hanging. Portrait depicts a man in a brown coat wearing a clerical cravat with preaching bands. On the reverse, a rectangular paper backing sealed to wooden frame; adhered to this, a discoloured brown piece of paper, square with irregular edging and a dozen small tears - cursive brown coloured text that reads: 'Our Grand Father/ Reverend Francis Clifton/ Rector of Alverstoke/ Hampshire/ Copied by Louisa Fyers/ Banks/ Mauritius 1830/ His granddaughter.'
