Small, rectangular, blue and brown detail on white (discoloured), paper, 5 piastres, Egyptian currency bank note. Intricately decorative geometric border, with different designs in each corner. Front of note, detail coloured blue, lower corner decoration has ‘5/ PIASTRES’ in each. Arabic text at top of note (beneath border), underneath which is written ‘ISSUED UNDER LAW No. 50/ 1940’, signature left centre, underneath which is written ‘MINISTER OF FINANCE’, bottom centre (above border) ‘EGYPTIAN CURRENCY NOTE’, below border in small text reads ‘SURVEY OF EGYPT’?. Reverse detail in brown, with different, geometric border pattern and opposing long corner decoration. Arabic text covers field, with illustration of temple?, to left of field, with separate circular border. Note very worn, heavily creased and folded, edges soft and torn in places, corners bent. Small, dark spots/ rust stains? across note.
