COMMEMORATIVE SHAVING MUG, 1929
H1998.20
Small souvenir shaving mug, with an off-white glazing and gold edging on the rim and part of the handle. Printed in black on one side - 'CRICKET CARNIVAL' followed by a circle, featuring the black swan on water and plants either side (one of which looks like the Kangaroo Paw). Below the swan 'CYGNIS INSIGNIS'. Around the edge of the swan 'CENTENARY OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA 1929'. On the reverse side in small print 'TO COMMEMORATE/ THE CELEBRATION OF/ WESTERN AUSTRALIA'S/ FIRST CENTENARY/ 1829 TO 1929'. On the base of the cup - in black print - the maker's mark and 'MADE IN ENGLAND'. The mark features a crown very similar to that on 'PROCTER' ware. See p.515 - Godder.
