TABLECLOTH

H1996.77

White cotton sheet, that has been used and decorated as a tablecloth. There is a drawn thread border. Covering the cloth, between the border and edge, the names of members have been embroidered in colours, including pink, purple, yellow, blue, red and green. In a triangle formation, it has been embroidered in purple running stitch 'GOD KEEP THEM AND BLESS THEM/ TO THE MEMORY OF MRS IP BROWNING-TURNER/ DEVOTED & ACTIVE MEMBER/ FROM 1924-1961/ ALSO TO/ ALL OUR LOVED MEMBERS/ NOW PASSED TO/ HIGHER SERVICE/ THE TORCH FOREVER GENTLY BURNS'.
In another triangle formation, there is tribute to MISS MABEL TALBOT.
In the centre of the cloth, around a circle, it is embroidered 'BY LOVE WE SERVE/ PERTH WOMEN'S SERVICE GUILD/ FOUNDED 1909'. Within the circle is the name of the President, Treasurer and Secretary with their respective years of office, ranging from 1940 to 1954. The year '1944' is at the centre, with two embroidered flowers either side of the president's dates.
A sign/label to the inner corner of the cloth reads 'GUARANTEED/ Dorma Supreme/ Sheets.'
