A. Floor standing valve radio in wooden cabinet. 'Genalex' Model 185 All-Wave Receiver. Top centre front panel of cabinet has tuning control, volume control, aerial trimmer, and wave change switch. Other two thirds of front panel has cloth backed fretted panel for sound projection. Back of cabinet is open and has a shelf tow thirds of the way up on which sits the valve assembly. This unit is stamped '25045' and has a diagram marked 'TERMINAL AND VALVE SOCKET DIAGRAM'. Also has a label regarding patents and reminding owner that a Post Office license is required. Label bears the number 'A369'. Top left hand corner of cabinet is stamped '5002' and central on top of back shelf is manufacturer's logo 'MASTERPIECE FURNITURE' 'BEARD...? & CO LTD / SYDNEY'. Bottom part of cabinet has a amplifier which is connected to the valve assembly by wires. Back of amplifier reads 'AMPLION / DYNAMIC / SPEAKER / TYPE L / OHMS / MANUFACTURED IN AUSTRALIA / AMPLION (A'SIA) LTD SYDNEY / AUSTRALIA'. A bunch of wires leads from valve assembly to connect with a battery (B). Leads have five different types of connections, two clamps and three plugs depending on the type of battery used. Base houses an Eveready No 470 45 volt battery made in Australia by Union Carbide. Radio used by Susan and Clement Warren of Walebing Post Office between the 1930's and the 1960's.
