MORTAR SIGHT

.......... See details of H92.0090. This mortar jungle sight was one of the last items made by Toughs for the war effort. They received the contract late in the war but managed to produce large numbers before the war ended. The sight is a simple prism periscope, used to sight along the axis of a mortars bore. The purpose was to ensure that there were no overhanging tree branches or other obstructions in the line of fire. The production of the sight had been necessitated by numerous cases of mortar rounds exploding in the trees above the mortars, injuring or killing the crew.
