HONOUR BOARD, WORLD WAR II PHARMACISTS

Roughly rectangular wooden honour board with rounded 'shoulders' at top between which is a carved logo reading 'PHARMACEUTICAL COUNCIL/ OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA' in gilt. The logo features a swan within a shield, two serpents heads and pestle and mortar on top. The base of the object is plain but printed in gold 'PHARMACEUTICAL SOCIETY OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA'. In the bottom left corner is carved in relief a set of scales and, in the right, a petle and mortar. All lettering is gilt and reads 'FOR KING/ AND COUNTRY/ WORLD WAR 1939-45./ PHARMACISTS'. Fifty three men are listed as serving, including S.J. Wilson, the W.A. Museum's numismatic expert for many years and Alan McWinney, author of 'A History of Pharmacy in W.A.'. A second heading 'APPRENTICES' lists men. M.W. Bradshaw and F.W.E. Thompson are noted with a star beside their name indicating 'MISSING, BELIEVED KILLED.' Has 2 brass attachments on 'shoulders' for hanging.
