ph Meter (per hydrogen IONS). A meter for testing the pH of soil or liquids etc. "7" is neutral. Below 7 indicates acidity. Above 7 indicates alkalinity. One balances the state of the medium by either adding acid or alkali. Used by the School of Agriculture, UWA prior to 1950. Label on rear of box: "BATTERIES changed 5TH NOVEMBER 1950". Trade label inside lid gives marks:"N.L. JONES / MODEL B pH ELECTROMETER / MELBOURNE". Long list of instruc- tion on care and use of meter. Address of manufacturer at bottom: "N.L. JONES / 195 BAY RD. SANDRINGHAM S.8, VIC./ TELEPHONE / PRIVATE XW 4100".
