One balances the state of the medium by either adding acid or alkali. Used by the School of Agriculture, UWA prior to 1950. Label on rear of box: "BATTERIES changed 5TH NOVEMBER 1950". Trade label inside lid gives marks:"N.L. JONES / MODEL B pH ELECTROMETER / MELBOURNE". Long list of instruc- tion on care and use of meter. Address of manufacturer at bottom: "N.L.
