COAT HANGER, covered

H1990.389

This coat hanger supported an evening dress of Dame Alexandra Hasluck. For further details see H90/0386 & 388. The hanger has a base structure of wood with a metal hook. It has been covered with wadding which is held in place by a cover of pale cream synthetic satin fabric. The cover has been constructed from one piece of fabric sewn into a tube and then gathered by two rows of stitching 8mm in from the folded edges. The hanger is thus covered with gathers and finished with ruffles along the top and bottom edges. A cream satin ribbon bow is located in the centre of the hanger.
