Finely potted. Bluish tint to body from addition of cobalt. Blue tint glaze. Glaze has orange peel effect, no crazing. Plain shaped tea bowl and dee saucer, no well. Brown transfer print of sea shells and sea weeds. Transfer roughly applied, especially to saucer. Pearlware was introduced by Josiah Wedgwood in 1779 and was subsequently copied by others in the 19thC. It followed on from the creamwares. Described as pearlware by Christie's 16 Aug 1979, no. 198. Teabowls had passed out of fashion by c.1820. Ref: Hughs Encyclopaedia English Ceramics, page 121. Godden British Pottery pa 140-1.
