Unglazed porcelain bust of Gounod on circular socle and octagonal base. (Christie's catalogue refers to Berlin white biscuit). Impressed mark on back 'KPM/ A.W.F. Kister factory in Scheibe Thuringia, 1838+. Guonod's 'Faust' opera published c.1860, 'Romeo et Juliette' c. 1867. Bust appears that of old man. Guonod 1818-93. Christie's 16 August 1979, lot no. 242 (a).
